Safety Tips for Halloween Night Trick-or-TreatersThe safest place for kids on Halloween is a public place, their own home, or a party hosted by a friend. Many communities now offer supervised Halloween parties. Malls, zoos, theme parks, and public libraries will often host parties as well. Kids still get to wear their costumes, there are always plenty of activities, and the treats are safe to eat and take home. Invite friends and have a party! When children go out door-to-door they can be exposed to many dangers. If your neighborhood is safe an adult should travel the route and have friends come along. It's always more fun with more people. The biggest danger of the night is being hit by a car. To help drivers see the children you can use reflective tape on the costume and/or shoes, and have the child hold a lite-up lightstick or flashlight. Keep in mind many costumes, available now, have some reflective properties. An adult should always inspect the treasures before any is eaten. Any wrapper that is the least bit suspicious should be thrown away. It's best to discard home made items or fresh fruit unless you know the person who provided the treat. Some people like to invite the kids into their homes. It's best to tell your kids not to go inside even though you are with them on the outside.
